The six Italian owners in Empoli show the way. And there is a project for the Sassuolo starlet
They call it Internazionale and for 100 years it has cultivated openness to the world, with a hint of xenophilia always in sight. This Inter, bruised by the pandemic, on the other hand, wants to change its perspective: it is no longer time for major foreign investments, an illusion to only follow exotic champions. On the contrary, from Barella captain in pectore to certainty Bastoni, passing through Darmian now titular on the right or the soldiers in Gagliardini style, the Italianness returns to being a value to be preserved.
Indeed, autarchy risks becoming almost an obligatory choice: it serves to adapt to the “sustainability” required by Zhang in front of shareholders. But it also serves to create a hard core for the future: it is no coincidence that Giacomino Raspadori is still the Nerazzurri’s dream, for reasons of identity as well as techniques. And even an eye to the youth fills the heart: from Spring the very Italian baby Casadei and Nunziatini promise well.
In Empoli there were six Italian starters after a lifetime – the last time on the final catwalk of last season – and two also resolved the game: the initial choice was dictated by the need for turnover in the middle of the week, but the signal is from grasp. It will not remain an isolated case because the entire tricolor group has responded well and will still serve: Dimarco, for example, is now to be considered an additional holder and D’Ambrosio rescued after time confirmed his innate feeling with the goal. And if on the flank Darmian has shown a reliability unknown to Dumfries, Gagliardini is also destined to return to the midfield rotations. Last time there weren’t Ranocchia, who will have his chance tomorrow against Udinese, and Sensi, on whom the usual question mark weighs: if Stefano returned to being physically intact, he would very often be in the 11th. More or less like the two world champions, both obviously highly titled in Tuscany and more or less freshly renewed: Bastoni signed a few months ago, Barella will put his autograph on next week. Just Nicolò, however, deserves a separate discussion because he is the driver of the company: from next season he will have the captain’s armband and will lead the increasingly “national” inter of tomorrow.
The man of the future
The new guidelines certainly do not mean that the CEO Marotta and the sporting director Ausilio should not look beyond the Alps: for example, they received Solomon Thomas, agent of Karim Adeyemi, the 2002 starlet from Salzburg and Germany, a forward half of Europe talks about. It was an inspection meeting only, the antennas are straight, but there is an auction between top teams in which it will be difficult to participate. And then the Made in Italy project passes from an investment in June right in the attack: Raspadori had already been borrowed by Marotta from his friend in Sassuolo, Giovanni Carnevali, already in late spring, even before the number 18 neroverde ended in Mancini’s squad for Euro 2020. Request declined with courtesy, because the Emilians had already decided to focus strongly on the Raspa-Scamacca jewels this year. But Giacomo still remains Inter’s first goal, for multiple reasons: he is 21 but he has been chewing on A for a while, he is flexible and for Inzaghi he could play both as first striker and second striker, integrating with all the other colleagues department. But more important still is the desire to add another brick to the blue block, which has always been dear to the CEO. Nerazzurro: over the Bianconeri years Marotta closely measured the importance of filling the locker room with players from the national team. In general, the leap into a big one would not be a problem for Raspa, if anything it is Inter who must now find the right key to convince Carnevali to let go. Agoumé (midfielder now protagonist at Brest) is considered a perfect profile for Sassuolo: young, of quality and with margins. In addition, in Emilia they are thinking about Mulattieri, the Nerazzurri-owned striker and B’s top scorer in this first part of the season at Crotone (6 goals in 10 games). Raspadori, however, has an Altine valuation – more than 30 million – and, in addition to these selected trading pawns, an adjustment will be needed to beat the competition: sustainability is okay, but for the Italian soul a sacrifice is admissible.
