Final at the traffic light negotiations! The party leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP have been sitting together on the sixth floor of the SPD headquarters, the Willy Brandt House in Berlin, since 11.30 a.m. – it is the decisive round of negotiations. The new government should be in place in a few hours. BUT: The hours could be tough …
Negotiations stall, there is trouble – and that, of all things, on the subject of money.
Green federal manager Michael Kellner (44) complained on Tuesday afternoon that the negotiations “are not as far as we would like”. BRISANT: Exactly at THAT time, Almost Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD) had withdrawn for an intimate conversation with his most important money expert in a party office on the fifth floor – one floor below the negotiating room.
Scholz spoke for more than an hour with his Finance State Secretary Jörg Kukies (53) – also about the important topic of “money”. Kukies has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance since 2018 – and since then Scholz’s most important figures man.
While Scholz was brooding over numbers downstairs, one floor above him employees rolled a man-sized refrigerator and a large coffee machine into the Helmut Schmidt Hall, the negotiating room. Preparations for a long night of negotiations …
Controversial topic of money!

▶ ︎ According to tax estimates by experts, the federal government can calculate a total of 71.7 billion euros more in the period from 2021 to 2025. The federal, state and local governments together can even expect additional income of 179 billion euros.
PLUS: According to a report by the Institute of German Economy, the planned cannabis legalization could generate 2.5 billion euros more income per year. The planned minimum tax and the additional taxation of particularly profitable corporations could mean additional income of more than 50 billion euros for the federal government in the period from 2023 to 2025.
Nevertheless, it is not yet clear how exactly the expensive traffic light plans will be financed.
And time is of the essence!
Scholz wants to be elected Chancellor during St. Nicholas Week, probably on December 7th or 8th. The Greens already rented a hall at Berlin’s Westhafen for Thursday and then want to present the traffic light pact and the ministers to their base.
It should be a long night of negotiations …
While Scholz and Kukies were discussing, a coffee machine was pushed into the negotiation room one floor up. At 8:39 p.m., a “Wolt” supplier brought two pizzas to the Willy Brandt House: a bresaola, a parma e rocket. Tip: 3 euros. For whom? He didn’t know …
